Schezwan Tasty has been quietly serving some of the best weekday lunches in Mesa from a strip-mall spot you would drive past without a second glance. That would be a mistake. Walk inside and you are greeted by the unmistakable sound of a wok roaring over high heat and the welcome smell of garlic, ginger, and dry red chilies.
The Lunch Special
For under ten dollars the lunch plate comes loaded with fragrant jasmine rice, a small cup of hot-and-sour soup, and your choice of entree. I went with the chili chicken and did not regret a single bite.
Heat with Balance
The spice level is legitimate but never overwhelms the dish. There is layering here, sweet, sour, numbing, and savory all showing up in turn. I am already thinking about tomorrow’s order.
